Product Testing and Certification

ENEC – Product Verification Testing

03. October 2024

Product Verification Tests (PVT) are an essential part of maintaining compliance with the ENEC certification mark. By regularly conducting product verification testing, manufacturers can demonstrate their commitment to maintaining product quality and safety.

What is Product Verification Testing?

Product verification testing is a mandatory requirement under the ENEC certification scheme and is conducted in addition to routine inspections and regular production end-of-line testing. These tests are performed on randomly selected samples from the production line, with emphasis on selecting samples that have the most critical construction features. The purpose is to verify that the manufactured products continue to comply with the certification standards over time.

Conducting Product Verification Testing

PVTs, also known as periodic tests, are carried out under the responsibility of the licence holder with testing performed either at the factory or by other sub-contracted organizations. A formal procedure must be established and maintained for conducting these tests. The requirements for conducting PVTs (sampling guidelines, frequency, etc.) are specified in the PD ENEC 303 document. All test results must be available for review by certification body inspectors.

While PVTs can be conducted at locations other than the factory, all test results and detailed documentation must be stored at the factory and remain accessible. Test records must include information about the testing process, equipment used, and equipment calibration. In some cases, standardized tests may not be required for specific product categories, as decided by the relevant technical committee.

If the test results are unsatisfactory, it is the licence holder’s or factory’s responsibility to take corrective actions as part of the testing procedure. This ensures that any issues identified during PVT testing are addressed promptly. Inspectors or representatives from the certification body will review this procedure during inspections, ensuring that the necessary actions are taken when required.
