New Edition of EN IEC 60730-1:2024 + A11:2025 Released – Key Safety and Technology Updates
The new edition of EN IEC 60730-1:2024 + A11:2025, based on IEC 60730-1:2022, introduces several important changes that reflect advancements in technology and evolving safety requirements:
- Stricter Safety Requirements: The updated standard strengthens protection against faults, such as short circuits and voltage surges. It also introduces enhanced safety verification guidelines to better align with modern technologies.
- Focus on Hazard Identification and IoT Integration: There is an increased emphasis on identifying potential hazards during device operation, particularly in the context of smart and connected (IoT) systems. This includes the standardisation of communication protocols and safety functions to ensure more secure integration into broader systems.
- Revised Testing Methodologies: Testing procedures have been updated to improve device reliability and safety, with a focus on performance under extreme conditions, such as sudden temperature changes and overloads.
- Clarifications and Definitions: The new edition provides clearer interpretations of technical requirements. It includes more precise definitions of device types and clarifies the responsibilities of all parties involved in the certification process.
- Updated Power and Energy Requirements: Changes address energy efficiency and sustainability, including adaptations for low-energy consumption devices, to support environmental acceptability.
- System Integration Alignment: The standard now incorporates references to system-level standards, including those related to energy efficiency, smart home technologies, and automated or remotely managed systems.
