New RoHS Requirements for Electrical and Electronic Equipment for Saudi Arabia
A new Technical Regulation on the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS) has recently been introduced by Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO). This regulation applies to the following categories of electrical and electronic equipment that enter the Saudi Arabian market:
- Large and small home appliances
- Lighting equipment
- Information and communication technology equipment
- Games, entertainment devices, and sports equipment
- Electrical and electronic tools and equipment
- Monitoring and control tools
The imported devices should meet the requirements of relevant KSA or GULF standards. In case of the absence of such standards, the requirements of the international one must be fulfilled. Furthermore, the manufacturer should provide a technical file of the device as well as evidence that their company has an effective quality management system.
The new regulation will enter into effect on January 5, 2022. Please note, for products placed on the market before the mandatory date, there is a grace period of 365 days to get the product certified.
If your device fulfills the requirements of international standards, there should not be any problems with getting a certificate against RoHS requirements from a notified body approved by SASO.
