SIQ – a comprehensive provider of testing and certification in the automotive industry

Car development and production have always been a major engineering challenge. They are the driving force behind the new solutions and constant progress of the automotive industry. However, in the concentrated competition of manufacturers and suppliers, it is necessary to ensure efficient and quality partners.

One such partner is SIQ. It is the largest provider of testing and certification in the automotive industry in Slovenia. It also provides support to this industry in the broader region.

The automotive industry is concentrated and highly competitive. Globalization has intensified the competition, but the global market offers many opportunities for cooperation outside each country. Shortly after Slovenia gained independence, Slovenian companies faced the challenge of how to penetrate foreign markets, as sales in the former common market fell abruptly.

To successfully continue their businesses, they had to find new customers. It was, however, not enough for potential buyers that companies could offer suitable technological solutions. They also had to set up appropriate production processes and management systems to ensure the quality of their products.

In the 1990s, SIQ began implementing the first training and management system assessments for suppliers in the automotive industry. Demand for these services has been growing (and continues to do so) over the years and we are constantly upgrading our range of services. We annually conduct over 40 training sessions in the automotive industry. We provide courses for internal auditors of the quality management system in the automotive industry IATF 16949:2016 and training in methods and tools for mastering the quality management system in this industry. Additionally, we carry out the certification of management systems according to the IATF 16949:2016 standard, which is intended for all manufacturers of products used in the automotive industry.

In recent years, several development centres have been set up in Slovenia, by either Slovenian or foreign companies, in which the development of state-of-the-art automotive components is taking place. In many cases, these products need to be carefully checked before they are suitable for final installation in vehicles. For this reason, SIQ has devoted a large part of its development resources in recent years to expanding the scope of test methods, through which we provide strong support for development centres. At the end of 2020, we put into operation a new reverberation chamber that allows the testing of electronic components according to the latest requirements of PSA, Jaguar-Land Rover and Ford.

At SIQ, we are constantly following new trends. We test the latest technologies in the field of E-mobility for our partners. We check DC electric chargers with power over 350 kW, the latest charging modules for electric and hybrid vehicles, autonomous driving assemblies, battery assemblies for electric bicycles, and GPS systems for the location and telemetry of vehicles. At the very beginning, car manufacturers realized that it is necessary to find good partners for successful operation in the automotive industry.
