South Korea Extends Regulatory RoHS Scope
In South Korea, the use of hazardous substances in electronic and electrical products is restricted by the so-called Korea RoHS document. It is the Act on Resource Circulation of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Vehicles that was amended by the Enforcement Decree and approved on 16th November 2020.
The amendments concern regulatory scope and extend the quantity of electronic and electrical product types (EEPs) that are subject to the restrictions on the use of hazardous substances as well as the number of hazardous substances.
23 new types of electronic and electrical products have been added to the Act since January 2021:
• Vending Machines
• GPS Navigation Devices
• Wired and Wireless Routers
• Treadmills
• Scanners (excluding Portable Scanners)
• Electric Frying Pans
• Video Game Consoles
• Electric Water Heaters
• Sewing Machines
• Bread Makers
• Dehumidifiers
• Coffee Machines
• Spin Dryers
• Toasters
• Fryers
• Hair Dryers
• Projectors
• Electric Appliances for Massage
• Surveillance Cameras
• Electric Kettles
• Food Dehydrators
• Herbal Medicine Cookers
• Foot Spas
The hazardous substances have been restricted in the products since 1st July 2021. The substances contained in the product shall not exceed the amounts indicated below:
