Successful Implementation of IEC 61000-4-41:2024 for Broadband Radiated Immunity Testing
At the beginning of 2025, our EMC Laboratory successfully implemented the newly published IEC 61000-4-41:2024 standard, which focuses on broadband radiated immunity testing. This standard addresses disturbances generated by communication devices, transmitters, industrial electromagnetic sources, and other equipment capable of emitting broadband signals.
Until recently, IEC 61000-4-3 served as the primary standard for evaluating radiated immunity, especially in environments where products operate near RF sources. However, it relies on a 1 kHz AM-modulated narrowband signal, which is no longer sufficient to represent real-world scenarios involving modern wireless technologies, such as 4G and 5G.
The new IEC 61000-4-41 standard is specifically designed to meet the demands of emerging broadband technologies. It provides a more realistic simulation of wideband signals, particularly those associated with 5G.
Although compliance with this standard is currently not mandatory, forward-looking manufacturers are encouraged to adopt it early. Doing so ensures enhanced product resilience, better performance in evolving electromagnetic environments, and improved future-proofing.
